3 Tips For Teen Girls Before Going to Prom

Preparing for prom can be both exciting and intense. It’s a time filled with anticipation, dreams, and memories in the making. But it’s also a time filled with stress and anxiety. From elaborate prom-proposals to choosing the perfect dress, coordinating accessories, hair and makeup appointments, making dinner plans, figuring out where to take pictures, and what to do about post-prom activities, the build-ups can be both exciting and nerve-wracking.

So, ladies, here are a few things you should know to give you the guidance and encouragement you need. Prom night is a whirlwind of excitement, anticipation, and dreams coming to life. It’s a time to shine, celebrate, and create memories with your friends that will last a lifetime. But amidst all the exciting events, it’s essential to prioritize your safety and well-being.

Tips For Teen Girls Going To Prom

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else.

First and foremost, remember that each one of you is uniquely beautiful in your own way. Don’t fall into the trap of comparison—embrace your individuality and celebrate the beauty that makes you, you. You might be tempted to think other girls look better than you. You might think their dresses are more glamorous, their make-up is so perfect, or they have an amazing figure or incredible hair. And you might start to feel a little insecure about your choices and how you look compared to them. You might even feel awkward, insecure, or lose your self-confidence.

And beautiful girl, you need to stop that thinking as soon as it pops up! Remember, every detail about YOU is extraordinary because no one has your eyes, your hair, your figure, or your face, and you can’t compare yourself to anyone else because they are simply NOT YOU-and, sweet girl, YOU are not them. Embrace who you are because you are the only you there is in this world. Comparison will steal your joy and self-worth- both of which you deserve to have.

Whether it’s your dress, your hairstyle, or your makeup, own it with confidence and grace. Believe in yourself!

Make smart decisions in unsafe situations.

Prom is a wonderful opportunity to dress up, dance, and celebrate with friends. But prom night can also present temptations and peer pressures you may not have anticipated.  It’s crucial to make smart choices to protect yourself. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, know that there are options available to you.

If you’re with a group where alcohol or drugs are being consumed, or if someone is pressuring you into something you’re not comfortable with, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Whether it’s a trusted friend, a chaperone, or a responsible adult, there are people who care about you and are ready to support you. Don’t do anything out of fear or peer pressure! Be smart and responsible, and honor your integrity.

Please don’t consume anything that can alter your mindset. If you are under the influence of any substance, you won’t be able to make wise decisions that would keep you safe. You could do something you will regret, and sometimes, the consequences of really poor choices can be life-changing. When kids get drunk or do drugs, they are vulnerable to being taken advantage of by other kids who are drunk or drugged up, too. It works both ways, for sure. But most often, it’s the girls who become victims of sexual aggression, assault, or harassment.

If you ever feel unsafe with your date, remember that you have the right to set boundaries and speak up. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Establish a code word with a trusted friend or family member that you can use to discreetly signal for help if needed. Your safety and well-being are paramount, and no one should ever make you feel otherwise.

Make the best out of the night!

Prom night is meant to be a fun and memorable experience. It can be awesome. Everyone has big expectations when they go to special events like Prom because they are often the highlights of the entire year! But sometimes things don’t always go the way we had hoped. We have all heard the stories of bad dates who ended up being jerks, girls getting too drunk, boys getting too physical, and friends just being awful.

Hopefully, none of these things will happen to you, but if anything doesn’t go as planned, know it’s okay to take control of the situation and prioritize your safety above all else. If the date or the group you went with is doing something you don’t want to do, look for other people to hang with instead. People who want to dance the night away, who want to create moments that become wonderful memories, and who want to celebrate this milestone in your life. Always trust your instincts, make smart choices, and look out for yourself and your friends.

So, as you prepare to embark on this unforgettable journey called prom, hold your head high, wear your confidence like a crown, and know that you are capable of navigating any challenges that come your way. Here’s to a night filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories. You’ve got this!
