Has the Halloween costume conversation started at your house yet?!
Maybe your tween has changed their mind four times this week. Maybe your teen just shrugged and said, “I don’t know, I’ll figure it out,” and you know that means October 30 at 9 p.m. Me too. 🙋♀️
Here’s the thing. Our kids are at an age where they care a lot about what their friends think, and they want to feel a little grown up while still getting to be a kid. That’s a lot to ask of one costume! So my team and I went looking for the Halloween costumes tweens and teens are actually excited about this year: what’s trending on TikTok and YouTube, what families are buying, and which costumes keep showing up on every list.
I kept a few things in mind for you: nothing gory, nothing too grown-up, and lots of options that work for both tweens and teens. And because some of my favorite memories are the silly ones we make together, I added a few mom + me duos at the end. 😉
The Top Halloween Costumes for Tweens and Teens in 2026
1. Spider-Man or MJ
Summer’s biggest movie means Spider-Man is everywhere this year, and superheroes are still the number one costume pick for kids. MJ is an easy, cute option, too.

2. Wednesday Addams
Easy, iconic, and comfy enough to wear all night. Bonus: the deadpan stare comes naturally to a lot of teens. 😂
3. The Odyssey: Athena
Inspired by this year’s big Christopher Nolan movie, this one is a favorite with older teens. I love that Athena is the goddess of wisdom. Not a bad role model!
4. Toy Story 5 (Jessie, Woody, or Buzz)
A new movie, budget-friendly, and so fun as a group. Siblings can even coordinate.

5. Pikachu Onesie
Pokémon turns 30 this year! Onesies are a teen favorite, and this one is cozy for a chilly night of trick-or-treating (and movie nights after).

6. Minecraft Creeper
Still a tween favorite. Bonus points if they know the chicken jockey joke. (Ask them. They’ll explain it to you. 😉)
7. Y2K Throwback (Hello, Hannah Montana!)
Hannah Montana turns 20 this year, and Y2K style is huge. A velour tracksuit is an instant throwback, and they’ll actually wear it again.
8. Five Nights at Freddy’s
A huge tween request this year. It’s a little spooky, but never gory.
9. Elle Woods
Pink, confident, and celebrating the movie’s 25th anniversary. I love a costume that says “I’m smart AND I like pink.”
Mom + Me Duo Halloween Costumes for Tweens and Teens 💕
Okay, Mama, hear me out. Your tween or teen might roll their eyes at first. But some of my favorite pictures are the ones where we were silly together. If your kid is up for it, these are SO fun.
10. Elphaba & Glinda
The mom-and-daughter duo that needs no explanation. You just have to decide who’s Glinda. 😉

Match in Nevermore uniforms and practice the same deadpan stare.

A Little Halloween Encouragement
Here’s what I want you to remember this October. When it comes to Halloween costumes for tweens and teens, the costume isn’t really the point. The point is the laughing in the kitchen while you pin a wig in place, the late-night run for face paint, the picture on the front porch they’ll pretend to hate and secretly keep forever.
Let them lead. Let them pick something that feels like them, even if it’s not what you would have chosen. That’s part of growing up, and it’s part of us growing alongside them.
I’m so grateful for these years with our kids, even the eye-rolling ones. They go by so fast. Soak up the silly. 💕
Tell me in the comments: what is your tween or teen going as this year? No judgment if the answer is “still deciding.” Me too. 🙋♀️
